Show Round Up: Celebrate Summer
What better way to kick off summer than an evening of theatre?
With schools out and the days still getting longer, we’re all in need of a little theatre for our summer nights! This weekend kicks off the summer season with nine opening nights, including a new works festival in the South Bay, and some outdoor Shakespeare in the North Bay. While you figure out which summer favorites you can’t miss, be sure to check the What’s Playing calendar for productions that are heating up near you!

Lights Up! 2025 at City Lights Theater Company
About the show:
City Lights’ annual Lights Up! festival returns on Saturday, June 14, bringing bold new voices and unforgettable stories to the City Lights stage. This in-person celebration of new works features script-in-hand readings of two powerful plays, plus the Maker Fair, highlighting hand-crafted creations from local artists in our community. This year’s plays: “The Soulmate Play” by Anthony Doan, directed by Jacob Yoder-Schrock (starting at 1 p.m.), and “Helicopter Typhoon Carabao! or To Survive an Apocalypse Now,” written by Amanda L. Andrei and directed by Mark Anderson Phillips (5 p.m.). The Maker Fair starts at noon, and will also be open between the readings.
In another testament to their commitment to new works, City Lights Theatre Company was just awarded the prestigious Rella Lossy award this week with playwright Vincent Terrell Durham! Read more here!
