CA$H | Theatre grants do not have a specific grant period. Even for CA$H Performs applications, it is not necessary to have full project dates/venue/etc. in your application. Any confirmed details are helpful, but the Fall 2020 CA$H |
Theatre panel will take into account the current uncertainty surrounding the timing of projects. Remember that CA$H Creates grants are also available for capacity building projects not directly tied to a production.
sure to showcase how your project will still meet the CA$H priority criteria, even if that may be shown through descriptions of the plans (and/or contingency plans) for the project, and less dates/timeline details than in past CA$H applications. CA$H
priority goes to work that has: (1) has an impact on the artist, the organization, the community or the field; (2) is innovative and takes creative risks with the potential of excellence; and (3) will result in some kind of tangible creative activity.
CA$H | Theatre has changed the designations through which you may apply for a grant. Both types of applicants (artist and organization) can now apply for either a CA$H | Creates grant ($2,500) or a CA$H | Performs grant ($5000). See guidelines for details.
CA$H | Theatre is grateful to now have three funders supporting this program (The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, the San Francisco Grants for the Arts and Arthur and Toni Rembe Rock) allowing for a larger bank for granting
PLEASE NOTE: CA$H | Theatre applicants do NOT need to be TBA members in order to be eligible.

About the CA$H | Theatre Program
CA$H (Creative Assistance for the Small (Organization) and Hungry (Artist), founded in 1999, provides vital financial support to individual theatre artists and small, professionally-oriented companies with operating budgets under $100,000. While Theatre Bay Area originally administered the program for both dance and theatre in partnership with Dancers Group, TBA now only administers theatre grants. For the dance application, visit dancersgroup.org/cash.
CA$H | Theatre is an entirely artist-driven granting program. Each cycle, a panel of five artists and administrators is assembled to review the applications and make all granting decisions. Panelists go through rigorous training to assure equability.

Additional application information is now primarily available through a series of videos found here.
We will have one in-person workshop each round in San Francisco. This round's workshop is on February 17, 2020.
Additional important information: All applicants applying to CA$H with a dance project must submit their materials to Dancers’ Group (NOT Theatre Bay Area) using the dance application. There is no longer a common application form. For the dance application, visit dancersgroup.org/cash.
"The $2000 CA$H grant I received helped me produce the world premiere production of Home Invasion, which we performed in nine private living rooms across the Bay Area. The grant helped me get my work seen by key artistic directors, donors, and theatre supporters!"

Nina Meehan – 2005 Recipient for Active Arts Theatre for Young Audiences
“When Bay Area Children's Theatre first started, a CASH grant gave us the fuel for our very first show! Today, we are reaching 90,000 people per year with our shows and classes, but without that first grant from Theatre Bay Area, we would have been stuck in the idea phase. Passion needs resources to turn ideas into reality!”
Today, Nina Meehan is the Executive Director of Bay Area Children's Theatre--formerly Active Arts Theatre for Young Audiences-- which has emerged as a leader in theatre for young audiences in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Min Kahng – 2015 & 2016 Recipient
"Thanks to the CA$H Grant, I was able to partner with Bay Area Children's Theatre to develop Story Explorers, a new musical for autistic children and their families. The funds enabled us to assemble a stellar team of collaborators who helped to devise the show and created a warm, welcoming environment for our audiences. We were able to impact the lives of over 60 families through the course of our three-weekend run."
Today, Min Kahng is a celebrated playwright and performer whose new musical, The Four Immigrants, which premiered at TheatreWorks July, 2017.
