Anti-Racism Resources
TBA Stands In Solidarity

Theatre Bay Area embraces equity and inclusion as our foundational principles. We know this means confronting racism in the world around us – and in ourselves. We urge you to add your voice to the many thousands who are calling for justice, who are saying unequivocally that #BlackLivesMatter.

The COVID-19 pandemic has laid bare the systemic inequities in this nation that are every day killing black, brown and Native people in far greater number than white Americans. This is no accident, and together we must work to dismantle the systems of racism that have killed George Floyd, Adrian Medearis (shot by police in Texas), Breonna Taylor (shot by police in Kentucky), Ahmaud Arbery (shot by white racists in Georgia) and tens of thousands of others (killed by a virus enabled by institutional injustice) just since the onset of the pandemic.

THINGS YOU CAN START DOING NOW

Thank you to Bay Area theatremaker Leigh Rodon-Davis for sharing these actions and resources.

1. Think before you re-share graphic videos of violence against Black people. While these images are important to raise awareness and show others the extremity of this brutality, you risk re-triggering or traumatizing Black and brown folx in your communities.

2. Take time to educate other non-Black folx and challenge anti-blackness and racism in your families and social networks. This labor should not fall on people of color who are living these experiences.

3. Participate in advocacy to support the victims and their families; do your due diligence and make sure the organization is actually donating to the proper parties.
