THEATRE BAY AREA NAMES DALE ALBRIGHT

AS NEW DEPUTY DIRECTOR

(San Francisco, CA) - Theatre Bay Area is happy to announce that long-time TBA staffer Dale Albright is the organization’s new Deputy Director. Albright starts the position immediately, following a three-month search and interview process. “I am honored to be taking this next step in my work for the Bay Area theatre community,” says Albright.

Theatre Bay Area Executive Director Brad Erickson says, “For more than 17 years, Dale has devoted himself to TBA’s mission to unite, strengthen, promote, and advance the Bay Area’s theatre community. Dale has taken on more and more responsibility with each position he has held, serving most recently as Interim Managing Director as TBA conducted its search. In fact, it was Dale’s success at balancing the responsibilities of Managing Director with his duties as Programs Director that led to the decision to streamline our organization’s leadership structure, creating the new role of Deputy Director.”

As Deputy Director, Albright will manage the business functions of the organization and oversee day-to-day operations. Programs oversight will be divided between the Deputy Director and Executive Director. Erickson will continue to oversee the areas of advocacy, development, board relations, civic engagement, strategy, and overall direction of TBA.

Albright shared his excitement over continuing with TBA in this new position: “Since starting at TBA over 17 years ago, I have spent every day not only learning the nuts and bolts of what is needed to help run this organization, but also constantly learning from my colleagues in the field about what we can all do collectively to have the deepest impact within our communities. My vantage point in various positions over the years here at TBA has given me unique insight into the vast array of work in this region and I continue to be overwhelmed and inspired by what I see. It’s this deep respect for our uniquely creative and passionately collaborative community that has kept me invested in TBA’s mission all this time and anxious to keep at it for another 17 years.”

In regards to how this new position affects TBA’s staff structure, Albright explains, “This deputy director position allows me to be able to keep my fingers in the pot of programming, working aside a team of both seasoned staffers and newer voices. Over the next few weeks, we will be hiring an additional programs coordinator (to join our existing programs coordinator, Kimberley Cohan, and membership associate, Hanna Rachel Gerry) to continue to grow and develop the programs and services everyone has grown to love and, of course, come up with some new ideas.”

Albright’s appointment marks the end of a search process that began in January, following the departure announcement of previous TBA Managing Director Rachel Fink. Candidates from around the country applied, and a search committee comprised of three board members – Debbie Chinn, Janice Sager, and Anne Smith – and TBA’s Marketing & Communications Manager, Sunshine Lampitoc Smith. With the Executive Director, the search committee considered the applications of twenty candidates. The final five candidates, which included Albright, underwent interviews with the Executive Director and search committee. The top two candidates also met with the entire TBA staff. In the end, Dale received strong support from all three interview groups.

“We are excited to welcome Dale into this new role,” says Erickson, “and we look forward to engaging his many talents and years of experience to strengthen TBA and forward our mission to advance the theatre community of our region.”
