Stand up for the arts!

March 13 is national Arts Advocacy Day when hundreds of arts supporters, including TBA’s executive director, will be gathering in Washington, DC to press Congress to support full funding for the National Endowment for the Arts and back arts-positive policies.

Last year, arts supporters around the country rose up to contact Congress and  #SavetheNEA. Our efforts paid off. Not only did Congress refuse to shut down the cultural agencies, they actually voted to increase funding to the NEA and its sister agencies.

Now is the time to rise up again and act. Here’s what you can do:

  • Join TBA Executive Director Brad Erickson at national Arts Advocacy Day in Washington, DC, on March 12 and 13. He and Sofia Klatzker of Arts for LA serve as state Co-Captains for California. In Washington, we will meet directly with the offices of both our Senators, Leader Pelosi, and Congress Members from around the state. Your presence this year will be crucial in helping us sustain funding for the NEA and other cultural agencies. Learn more here.
  • Join TBA staff and Arts for a Better Bay Area at San Francisco’s City Hall, Civic Center steps, at 12:15 PM on March 13. We’ll be visiting City Supervisors around issues impacting artists and arts groups around the city.
  • Train yourself to be an effective advocate! Organizations like the Alliance for Justice offer advocacy training sessions for 501(c)3 organizations. You can still sign up for their training on March 9, Bolder Advocacy, or join their email list for future events.
