COVID-19

The Coronavirus

Protecting Your Staff and Your Audience

Theatre Bay Area is monitoring developments with the spread of the coronavirus and is in close contact with fellow service organizations across North America around their response.

Several TBA member companies have issued public messages similar to the one below distributed by A.C.T. (thanks to A.C.T. for its use). TBA recommends all theatres encourage their staff, volunteers and audiences follow the Center for Disease Control’s COVID-19 prevention advice:

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • If soap and water are unavailable, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
  • More information from the CDC for organizations hosting large events can be found here:
  • From the CDC website: Interim Guidance: Get Your Mass Gatherings or Large Community Events Ready for Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)

At this time, we know of no TBA member company that has cancelled shows because of the virus, though several are making it easier for patrons to stay home when sick by liberalizing their ticket exchange policies. Member companies should consider contingencies if cancelling performances becomes advisable or required and should discuss plans for staff members to work remotely.

Theatre Bay Area will update the membership as the situation develops.
