Healing Through Zoom: The Living Document
After a discussion with our moderators for the second “Healing Through Zoom” conversation, we have decided to postpone tonight’s meeting of July 1st to be moved to July 21st from 4:30-7:30pm.
The planning group (Nicky Martinez, Julius Rea, Ashley Smiley, Ely Sonny Orquiza, and SK Kerasta) have decidedto re-center this conversation around anti-Blackness in both White-led and BIPOC-only spaces.
The Living Document was intended to voice the traumas, experiences and microaggressions the BIPOC theatre community face while working in Bay Area organizations, especially those that have claimed to be racially equitable. However, the root of this issue is systematic racism and upholding white supremacist culture, which must be addressed first.
By postponing this conversation and extending the session by one hour, this gives the planning group a proper amount of time to invite more Black moderators and participants into the space.
Additionally, we will be sharing resources on anti-Blackness ahead of the conversation to ensure that all white theater-makers and leaders have time to educate themselves prior to our next session.

Gather via Zoom to hear from the originator of the Living Document of POC Experiences in Bay Area Theatre Companies, Ely Sonny Orquiza, on what was the idea behind creating the document, what he's learned, and and what he hopes we might be able to do together to bettering our Bay Area theatre community.
Our second convening on July 1st NOW MOVED TO July 21st will focus the conversation around addressing anti-blackness in our theatre community to hopefully move towards the steps of accountability.
We don't expect to heal in 2 hours we want to remind people healing is a non-linear process and this is just the beginning.
Please join us for this remaining session and dedicate your energy to listen, learn, educate, and take action for the bettering of our community when it's safer to raise our curtains again.

Be open to listening and engaging with explicit/transparent talks about racism, generational pain, complicit actions within our Bay Area Theatre Community
Be open to think critically of how we can work towards tangible change within our organizations and hold each other accountable
