The New Works Fund
Theatre Bay Area’s New Works Fund seeks to provide local playwrights with new ways to establish relationships with local theatres and to encourage Bay Area theatre companies to foster and produce the work of local playwrights. In 2009 The New Works Fund will award at least one grant of $8,000 to a creative team composed of a Bay Area playwright and theatre company with half going to the playwright and half to the theatre company. In fulfillment of the grant, the writer and company will develop and fully produce the awarded new work. This year we will also be awarding at least one grant of $1,000 with $500 going to the playwright and $500 to the theatre company. In fulfillment of this grant, the writer and the company will develop and produce a staged reading of the work.
Proposals are to be prepared jointly by a company and a playwright. Applicants (both companies and playwrights) may submit no more than one proposal per granting round.
Eligible companies must be members of Theatre Bay Area and have an annual operating budget between $50,000 and $750,000. Playwrights must be full time residents of the greater San Francisco Bay Area. For more information please read the guidelines.
2009 Guidelines and Application available now.
