Big Changes at Bay Area Performing Arts Spaces: Free Calendar Sync!

Today, Bay Area Performing Arts Spaces, or BAPAS, the searchable database of performing arts spaces, is making one of its most popular features free: calendar sync and availability search.
Since 2011, Theatre Bay Area and Dancers' Group have worked to help match local artists who need space for their rehearsal, performance or event to spaces with unbooked rental times. BAPAS, which is powered by Fractured Atlas, has been incredibly successful; we now list 467 spaces in 11 Bay Area counties, and visitors to the site conduct thousands of searches each month.
Last year, we created PRO Accounts for the site, which, for $20 per month, gave spaces an additional set of perks, including the ability to display photos in search results. The most important feature, however, was "Share My Calendar." This allowed a space to sync its organizational calendar with BAPAS, highlighting times that it hadn't already booked.
Here's how that looks:
We believe this feature is one of the most important our site has to offer. So starting today—with support from the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation—this and other benefits that previously cost $20 per month are now available to all spaces free of charge, just like the rest of the site.
This calendar syncing can eliminate a time-consuming step in the search for a space. With it, artists can look for spaces that are available during particular times, narrowing their search to the most likely candidates, which means, oh glory of glories, fewer emails to write! On the flip side, spaces using calendar sync to showcase their available time slots get more booking requests from the people who are most likely to book!
The feature has already been immensely helpful to those who have adopted it. "We hadn't done much marketing for our space prior to using this service," says Adriana Marcial, the communications director at Joe Goode Annex. "But once we listed and synced our calendar we started getting inquiries every day. The number of renters has at least tripled, and besides word-of-mouth, it's the only marketing tool we use for the space."
