Why now?
The buzz around the non-profit world is all about the "leadership crisis." Organizations are facing the retirement of their boomer founders and are looking around for successors. At the same time, many in the next generation are facing challenges advancing along traditional paths and are wondering whether those paths will work for them as they seek meaningful opportunities, life/work balance, and a place where they can realize their aspirations.
More and more members of this generation of theatre artists and administrators are opting out of the theatre entirely, which does indeed represent a leadership crisis. We believe we need to change the conversation and engage this group of emerging leaders together in developing new solutions and creative new paradigms for our field.

What's in it for me?
We’re working with focus groups of like-minded artists and administrators across the country to create a conference that works differently (and works for us). We plan to offer a compelling blend of information on personal career advancement, trends and developments in the field and reflections on similar challenges faced by emerging leaders in other fields. We invite you to be in at the beginning of a conversation that will surely have national implications.
Sessions will include:
-
Lynne Lancaster discussing her research on generational issues in the workplace
-
Getting into the heads of the leading arts executive search firm
-
Personal goal-setting with a representative from Creative Capital
-
A panel looking at leadership development models in other sectors
-
Alan Brown sharing his new model for measuring the intrinsic value of the arts.
-
Conversation with a community facilitator to develop a shared agenda for further work
The two-day conference will also include numerous opportunities for networking with peers from around the country as well as the chance to meet key Bay Area theatre leaders.
