PLAYWRIGHTS PROJECT: Seeks plays by playwrights under age 19 for 29th annual California Young Playwrights Contest. Winning writers aged 15 & older will receive full professional prods; winning younger writers will receive staged readings perf’d by professional actors. $HEADLANDS CENTER FOR THE ARTS: Seeks artists for fully sponsored 4-10-wk residencies in Marin. $35 processing fee. Deadline 6/7 for residency in 2014. Info: headlands.org.

AMERICAN-SCANDINAVIAN FOUNDATION: Seeks translations of poetry, fiction, drama or literary prose written by a Scandinavian author born after 1800 for the Nadia Christensen Prize. Translation may not have been previously published in the English language by submission deadline. Award includes $2,000 award, publication of an excerpt in Scandinavian Review & commemorative bronze medallion. Deadline 6/7. Info: amscan.org.

AMERICAN-SCANDINAVIAN FOUNDATION: Seeks translations of poetry, fiction, drama or literary prose written by a Scandinavian author born after 1800 for the Leif & Inger Sjöberg Award. Translation may not have been previously published in the English language by submission deadline. Award is given to individual whose literature translations have not been previously published & includes $1,000 award, publication of an excerpt in Scandinavian Review & commemorative bronze medallion. $SANTA CRUZ COUNTY ACTORS’ THEATRE:
Seeks 10-min plays for playwriting contest. 8 plays selected for 8Tens@8 Festival in Jan; 8 runners-up selected for Best of the Rest Fest in Feb. Deadline 7/1. $10 reading fee. Notification 9/1. Info: sccat.org.

DAVID CHARLES HORN FOUNDATION-YALE DRAMA SERIES:
Seeks unpub, full-length plays. Winner receives David C. Horn prize of $10,000, publication of the winning play by Yale University Press & staged reading at Lincoln Center Theater in New York City. RAGDALE: Seeks writers working on projects designed to bring awareness to a contemp issue having to do w/peace, social justice or the environment for the Alice Hayes Writing Fellowship. GOLDEN THREAD: Accepts full-length plays on ongoing basis. Areas of interest: Plays by Middle Eastern writers on any topic; plays about the Middle East written by anyone; comedies, especially satire; adaptations of classical texts &/or historical figures; exploration of Middle Eastern perf traditions & experiments w/nonrealistic forms. HORIZON THEATRE: Accepts unsolicited resumes, treatments, samples & summaries. No unsolicited full-length scripts. Response time 12 months. Info: horizontheatre.com.

$PLAY CAFE:
Seeks playwrights to participate in monthly scene-reading night in Downtown Berkeley. Playwrights may have up to 10 pp of a scene-in-progress read by a combination of professional actors & fellow participants. $10 fee to attend. Meetings are 2nd Thurs of month, 7-10PM. Info: playcafe.org.

PORTLAND STAGE:
Seeks full-length plays for Little Festival of the Unexpected. 3-5 winning playwrights get residencies in Portland, ME, during duration of festival & prod of show.
